Goldilocks and the Three Bears
This is the second of a set of two flip-flap books that I was asked to illustrate for Walker Books. I started the roughs for this book immediately after Little Red Riding Hood. This book helped me gain confidence with paint and the way the book was engineered. I introduced two extra characters to help Goldilocks with the speech bubbles, a duck and a dog. It was great fun to do this book but it took a lot of planning, time and patience to get every turn of the page just right.
How Long Did it Take to Draw?
This book took me approximately four to five months from start to finish. It took me a few weeks to get the girl character 'cute' and 'young' enough. The bears and the animals were a piece of cake!
The book is a lively interpretation and a reworking of the classic tale. Tony Mitton's imaginative writing style really compliments my drawing style as it did with Little Red Riding Hood. Both flip-flap books are full of imagination and rhythm. It has proved a real favourite with my friends' children and grown-ups too!
